Eliminating startup errorsIf PTW fails to start, and gives a general protection fault (GPF) error, then the most likely cause is a corrupted registry key. The solution to this problem, is to delete the PTW registry key, and then start PTW. PTW will then recreate the registry key. The registry key is deleted by using Start>>Programs>>PTW>>Delete PTW32 Registry Key menu option, or running the RegDel.exe program in the PTW32\BIN directory. Select the "Clean up ALL settings in the registry for PTW" option, and then click on OK. PTW should then start OK. Please note that each user has a unique registry key, so if one user is having problems running PTW, and one user isn't, then the RegDel program must be run with the "problem user" logged in. |
