Distribution Reliability
An Electrical Power System is a complex interconnected network of components. The overall system reliability is dependent upon the design, the reliability of individual sources and components and the availability of replacement components. The relationship between cost and reliability is also a complex relationship of equipment and installation costs, lost revenue, lost production and other variable factors. Reliability calculations are important for both utility networks and commercial and industrial power systems to ensure an acceptable level of reliability at the lowest possible cost.
The SKM Power*Tools Reliability program module calculates the reliability indices of individual load points and the overall distribution system with either radial or loop configurations. The calculated reliability indices are the average annual unavailability, outage frequencies and average outage duration at all concerned load points of a distribution network. The indices include SAIFI, DAIDI, CAIDI, ASAI, ASUI, ENS, AENS, and ECOST from the “IEEE Trial-Use Guide for Electric Power Distribution Reliability Indices - 1999”. Cost-related factors are included in the analysis to compare cost versus reliability for alternative designs. The Reliability module is seamlessly integrated into the SKM Power*Tools software program working from the same project database and single-line diagram interface.
